“The genesis of this book occurred on one of the many evening walks my sister (Sarah) and I took when we were lucky enough to be roommates. We noticed person after person abruptly crossing the street. When we looked at the source of the mass exodus we saw a timid little skunk. We thought how deeply sad it would be if people crossed to other side of the street whenever they spotted us, all because of what we did when we were scared.

Sarah and I have always loved creating songs and stories, most of which were hilarious nonsense. So, starting from ‘it stinks to be a skunk,’ we were off, thinking about the outcasts of our animal world.

Sarah Jane, a dear friend, has always amazed me with her art. There is nothing that she can’t do, and everything she creates is amazing. So when she wanted to illustrate our project, it became something real. Real Amazing!”
